Allergy season is here! It’s been spring in my house for at least a month now, whoops! I posted over a month or so ago on Instagram my spring mood board and realized I never shared the end result! Before I get into the actual products, I figured I’d briefly talk through my thought process. Let’s be real, the issue with seasonal décor is storage. Add in the additional complexity of renting, eventually having to move it and the product costs, it’s enough to dampen the desire to decorate. I knew I needed to keep my spring refresh minimal and affordable. My goal was to use as many things I already owned as possible. Below is the mood board I ended up creating just for our living room area. There’s some slight tweaks I made from the original one I posted. I will link all products for each room here and on my LiketoKnowIt.
Disclaimer: some products may not be exacts as I found them at Home Goods or they may no longer be in stock.
Pillows are the easiest way to refresh a room. Unfortunately, many pillows, especially at retail stores like Home Goods or Target, come already stuffed. Hence contributing to the storage issue. I had been complaining to my mom that while I love pillows, storing my seasonal ones takes up sooooo much space and she suggested looking at pillow covers as a way to combat the issues. I fell in love with this floral embroidered pillow from Target because it gently pulled out a mustard yellow color that matched a throw (currently only have being sold in a peach color) I already had. Then, I saw these textured blush pillows and I couldn’t pass on the combo. So much for keeping it minimal! A random yet fun fact about me is I am a constant victim of Instagram ads! It’s so bad I gave up online shopping for Greek Lent. So, of course when I saw an ad of faux leather pillow covers that also happened to be named the Milo from Woven Nook, I couldn’t pass them up. I also knew that these could be used year-round since they are neutral AND they were just covers, double whammy!
For the coffee table center piece all I needed was a candle which I found cheap at the oh-so premium home decor store: Home Goods. The vase, faux ecualyptus and flowers I had left over from last year. The corn-husk, egg-shaped garland, also from Target, I was drawn to because of the colors. It also works because I get to keep the garland out longer due to Orthodox Easter falling a month after Eastern Easter! Truth be told, I actually moved the garland to sit on my TV table as I didn’t find anything I liked for that space and felt like it was too busy with the tray.
Pillows are to living rooms and bedrooms like towels are to kitchens and bathrooms. Meaning the quickest way to update a kitchen or bathroom is by switching out the towels. I found the cutest Hearth & Hand towel set at Target and added this Hearth & Hand flour sack kitchen towel that accents the set perfectly. For the kitchen table, because it’s the first thing people see when they walk up the stairs, I finally gave into my desires to do table settings. While I love nothing more then fresh flowers, always having them can add up! BUT, nothing screams spring more than a beautiful bouquet of tulips. I ended up finding these life-like pink and white tulips from Amazon that I stuck in a vase with some water and voila! I had been wanting straw placemats since this summer but have been oddly particular about ones I wanted. I found a set of four at Home Goods, although six would be more ideal. I did see these in-store the other day at Target that I wish I would’ve seen prior to purchasing the ones I did. It’s hard to tell from the picture but the napkins are a pale pink and white buffalo check, also found at Home Goods but similar ones can be found on Amazon. I wanted simple, gold napkin rings as I know I could always use them with some of my other cloth napkins. Unfortunately, the ones I bought are no longer available but I found these that are still simple and linked a couple other options on my LiketoKnowit.
Similar to kitchens, bathrooms can easily be refreshed with new bath towels. We have an awkwardly long and wide towel rack in our main bathroom meaning a minimum of four towels are needed to fill up the space. Target for the win again with this plaid hand towel and floral hand towel that I thought compliment each other well. Luckily, I found this green and off-white terry plaid set to complete the look. I added in a vase with the same faux flowers used in the family room, both I already owned, and a spring Rae Dunn candle I found at Home Goods that matches the towels perfectly. Originally, I wasn’t going to refresh the bathroom, but I’m so glad I did!
One thing I forgot to mention that’s hard when purchasing seasonal décor is my everchanging taste. I feel like I have to go in knowing that I likely will use the products for a couple years before wanting to change it up. I tried picking pieces I thought would satisfy my taste for longer than a couple years but we will see!
I hope you have a blessed and safe Easter as that is really what makes spring such a beautiful season; beginning of new life thanks to God’s love for us through Jesus’ sacrifice.
